8 best casino strategies

All casino games are based on chance. Even poker players don't know which cards to play next, and many poker strategies fail before you even start playing the game if you have a weak hand. This is a great lesson to keep in mind when thinking about any type of gambling strategy because the element of the unknown sooner or later makes all strategies controversial.

Nevertheless, some of the most experienced players fall into comfort zones where they feel they have some control over the results. This comfort zone is also a mistake. If you really want to bet, why not try a few strategies that are outside your comfort zone? There are some pretty interesting things you can try without sacrificing the statistical position that you want to maintain when confronted with the advantage of the house.

In fact, there are even some working ways of reducing the advantage of the house, but they are few. Gambling would be very boring and monotonous if everyone played the same games in the same ways. So in the spirit of "no risk, no reward" here are some strategies that will make other players wonder what exactly you are doing. You don't have to give up anything but your usual style of play.

If you like these strategies enough to try them out, you will find that you can change things when other players get in the rut. Even if this does not give you an advantage over the house, you will at least be less likely to get bored.

Never play Blackjack again

Blackjack has gained a lot of respect among gamblers because, unlike most other casino games, you can bring only a little skill to the table. Experienced players will probably tell you that the house's advantage in Blackjack is also quite good. But there is one problem with standard Blackjack: it's not the most generous version of this game you can play.

Although most people have learned to avoid single Blackjack games that pay only 6: 5 odds, most players like playing standard Blackjack with 6 to 8 decks because they like these 3: 2 odds. But there is another way to enjoy this game with a slight edge over the usual blackjack player.

If your casino offers Spanish 21, you should try it. Although there are several differences in the rules between plain blackjack and Spanish 21, the most distinctive difference is that Spanish 21 is played without any 10 point cards. In other words, Spanish 21 has 48 cards (includes all face cards) instead of 52 cards. Removing these 10 point cards from the game reduces the chances of a player or dealer to reach 21.

The downside to Spanish 21 is that the house's advantage is about 3% versus 1% in standard blackjack. But there are some unusual prizes in Spanish 21. One of them is the fact that players always win 21 to 21. Even when the dealer has blackjack, you win if you also have blackjack. Better yet, the house pays 3: 2 if the player has blackjack.

You can also split aces a second time at Spanish 21. Okay, it may not be very likely to get three or four aces, but when that happens, you can split again.

Why play Spanish 21 if the advantage of the house is greater than what it is in standard blackjack? There is indeed too much discussion about the "house advantage" of gambling players. Technically, the advantage is realized only with a large number of bets, which means that the house sometimes performs better than you expect, and sometimes worse. This volatility is a good thing because it means that sometimes players can make a lot of money.
Instead of comparing statistics, consider the flexibility and bigger rewards you get when you play Spanish 21. This will take you out of your comfort zone, but you will be pleasantly surprised to be paid better odds for some combinations, which do not pay well in regular blackjack. You just may never want to play blackjack again.

Play only in tournaments

This strategy is quite well known. Almost every major strategy tells you to only play in tournaments at a given time. This is because if you just pay a fixed fee but win the tournament, the value of the prize can be significantly higher than the participation fee. Even slot games tournaments can be rewarding for players in first, second and third place.
What makes the tournament game really interesting is that you can plan ahead. This almost reduces gambling to a predictable bet. Of course, you may want to bet more than tournaments allow, so restricting yourself to just playing tournaments may not be practical.
Joining tournaments allows you to play on two levels and this added risk can make the tournament experience more satisfying for you.

Play against the dealer whenever possible

Casinos do not like being the only player on the table of blackjack. Part of the advantage of the casinos comes from the dealer, who plays against several customers at the same time. Whether you count the cards or not, you will see less volatility in the distribution of cards if you are the only player facing the dealer.

The pit boss may close other tables or send some players to play at your table if you are lucky to play against the dealer yourself. Do not be upset when this happens.

Why does it matter how many players are on the table? Because your chances of getting these high value cards are diminishing with  more people playing. When it is just you and the dealer, you have an even greater chance of getting the cards you need. With  more people joining, your chances are drastically reduced.

The dealer does not need to draw high value cards as often as individual players have to do. This is because the dealer wins every time a player loses. Therefore, if you play a conservative dealer game you have a pretty good chance. But the advantage of the house will never disappear completely. Sometimes the third card you get is bad and you can't do anything about it.

Play two of three outside bets at the same time at roulette

Sometimes experienced players love to choose roulette, and there are certainly many good reasons to discourage you from playing a game that is cleverly crafted to highlight high risk bets. Most of the table betting options are single numbers and players tend to only think about betting on such numbers.

Players that know what they are doing can play roulette lines, but even when you bet on six numbers, the house has a huge advantage over you and your chances are not good.

Your best chance of winning at conventional roulette strategy guides is to play "safe" outside bets: black or red, odd or even. The experts reluctantly agree that you can also place bets in 1/3 categories: 1st Twelve, 2nd Twelve and 3rd Twelve. These 1/3 groups pay 2 to 1 odds.
You can improve your chances of winning by playing 2 groups. You reduce the odds to even pay when you do this, but you get better coverage with this type of bet (24 numbers) over standard safe bets (18 numbers), which also pays even money.
So what would you like to bet on: to win from betting on 18 numbers or to win from betting on 24 numbers? Calculate. You may never want to bet black or even again.

Play only maximum lines in slot games

The so-called "coin" slot games have evolved since they first appeared. Game makers are adding more paylines to these games and are now even adding more screens to process more lines. The early versions of these games let you choose how many paylines are active during spins. While this may seem like a generous gesture to players who feel uncomfortable betting on 15, 20 or 25 lines, the reality was that the player's theoretical return was brutally reduced to very low levels.

If you play only 1 of the 25 active paylines, you will almost never win. This is not the same as a single line slot game. Players who try to save their money by playing fewer lines are actually thrown out of the game. This is because games are designed to pay the best percentage when all lines are active.

Games with multi-pay lines often provide better theoretical returns for players than older single pay lines. If your payout table shows you an RTP of better than 96%, your game comes close to Spanish 21, roulette and blackjack.

Slots may not be your favorite game, but most people like it. If you choose more recent slot games that have fixed payment lines (you cannot deactivate them), you can enjoy an easy spin on the reels without taking a much greater risk than that of playing cards.

Play Keno instead of other games

If you are familiar with tables that recommend casino games, then you know that keno is at the bottom of the list, along with all other lottery-style games. So, how can a keno game be a recommended strategy instead of other games? Regular gambling is not yet recommended, but most people, when calculating how bad keno is as an option, usually follow the more famous games and do not consider the probabilities of the more obscure games. But there is another component to this "insane" strategy.

First, let's look at the worst-case and best-case scenarios. In a typical keno game, you can usually choose from 2 to 10 numbers. The rule is that the more numbers you choose, the worse your chances of winning, even though payout odds are improving. Who wouldn't want to pick 10 successful numbers? Of course, this is the attraction behind keno, and most players seem to want to choose big winnings rather than more achievable ones.

If you are going to play keno, you need to look at which options give you the best chance of winning. The odds can vary from casino to casino, as there are several variations in the game. For example, in one version of the game you may be able to win two of the three numbers in Pick 3, while in another version of the game you may not be able to get anything in two out of three. The casino publishes a profit table that explains the odds.

The best versions of the game pay at least a little when you know some of the numbers. The fewer numbers you have to choose to get at least 2 winning combinations, the better. For example, you can play Pick 5 and win at 5 numbers, 4 numbers and 3 numbers. That's a pretty good profit. Most modern slots offer better theoretical player returns, but you are in the 70% to 75% RTP range with this option. If you can play Pick 4, it can be a little riskier. In fact, in some versions of the game, Pick 4 offers the second best theoretical return to the player if it allows for three catches that offer rewards (4, 3 and 2 numbers).

So after choosing the preferred version, why would you choose to play keno if the best theoretical return you can hope for is around 70% to 75%? It's quite simple, really. You will stop betting for a while. Take a break. Go eat something or watch TV. One of the features of keno is that it's a slow game. You see only a few drawings an hour at most, and this offers the option of betting while not playing. Keno is a completely passive game, even more than a slot machine.

Among the many money management schemes that game experts recommend to players is to slow down the speed of the game. This is impossible to do on a game table, as the dealer must maintain the action for the rest of the players (the pit boss is watching). This is not possible with other table games for the same reason. It's theoretically possible to slow down your slot game, but the Spin button sits right in front of you, and frankly, you'll be sitting too long if you just play the slots all night.

So get up, take a walk, bet $ 10 on a few keno cards with Pick 4 or Pick 5 numbers, and then relax. Take something to eat. You still play, but you don't risk much and you have almost as much chance of winning a small amount of money as if you had played a few rounds of slots. That's still fun, isn't it?

Don't ignore Craps

Craps is the most complex game in the universe and is also considered one of the most unfriendly table games if you try to use more complex bets. Approximately every intro to Craps tells you that the best bets are the Pass line and the Don’t Pas line and you should always use Take the Odds with Pass or Lay The Odds with Don’t Pass.

These rules are simple, you almost don't have to think about them and everyone recommends them. But most players choose to bet Pass because they want to support the person who rolls the dice. Opinions vary, but when comparing the two options, the biggest drawback of betting Pass is that you may lose the Come Out dice.

Now you might be looking at how players win with the Pass and Don’t Pass on the Come Out dice and think, "In any case, I win with 2 numbers. Why is Pass the better bet? “This is because to win a Come Out dice with a Pass bet you need 7 or 11. There are eight ways a dice can fall to get one of these two numbers. To win a Don't Pass bet you need 2 or 3 and there are only three ways to get one of those two numbers, so the one who throws is more likely to get 7 or 11 (and that's why in the movies people usually shout, "Come on seven!").

However, once you get past Come Out Dice, Dont Pass starts to look pretty sweet compared to the Pass bet. This is because after the person who throws the dice establishes his Point, the person who bets Don’t Pass only earns about 2/3 of the time, while the one who bets Pass earns about 1/3 of the time. So you can make up for the lost opportunity at Come Out Dice with Doon’t Pass on the Point.

The Pass bettor uses Take the Odds by placing extra chips on his first bet. Don’t Pass bettor  uses Take the Odds to place chips until the first bet. This is not the same as playing the odds where you place another stake on the colored dice in the odds field. This is one of the reasons Craps has confused some players.

Betting on Pass is better paid than Don’t Pass, but you are more likely to win a Don’t Pass  bet. In fact, this is exactly why the casino pays less money on Don’t  Pass bets.

Use a 17 second delay between spins

Slowing down with slots is not easy, but there is a mathematically valid reason to do it differently, except that you are losing money at a slower pace. This is not a betting system that promises to win more often. This is a system that increases the variability of your game. It is based on how the algorithms for generating arbitrary numbers work.

There are two things you need to know about random number generators, those complex small chips that depend on all modern slot machine games to determine where the reels stop spinning. The first is that we do not yet have a science that can give a truly arbitrary number through a mathematical algorithm. Second, the numbers generated by these chips are drawn from huge pools of possible outcomes, making them more than random to make them unpredictable in the game. Therefore, chips are allowed and regulated in most, if not all, gaming jurisdictions around the world.

This insane strategy is intended for slot players who believe that random number generators fit into the models. The probability of this happening is relatively small, but since the random numbers are not really random, it is possible. What happens is that the generated numbers fall into what is called a "local model". This means that they follow a model for a short time. This is good because you never see random numbers or how they are used. This black box effect guarantees the integrity of the slot game. But let's take a closer look at how this black box effect is achieved.

The random number generator continuously produces new numbers. Each new number is placed in a part of the chip memory called "register". The number waits there for a fraction of a second and is then replaced by another number. In the meantime, the machine is running its own gaming software. When you turn the reels, the game starts to retrieve random numbers from the RNG registers. In the United States, an arbitrary number is required for each reel, and these numbers are used to determine where the drums stop rotating. In other jurisdictions, a single random number is used to determine the outcome of a game.

The idea behind the 17-second delay is that once the drums stop spinning and you are awarded the prize, you count down to 17 seconds. A watch is really good for that, but a smart phone can do it too.

Waiting 17 seconds after each spin increases the chances of getting out of any local model with fewer spins. A local model can bring you many rewards at random, or it can bring you many losing spins. There is no way to know if this rare occurrence is happening, but if you feel like you are stuck in an arbitrary digital path, you can change the game by pausing and taking time between turns. And as it happens, this insane strategy fits most money management strategies that suggest you slow down the game speed to save money.

But why pause for 17 seconds? Why not choose, say, 5 seconds? This is a good question and the answer may seem a little strange. 17 is a simple number and in any algorithm that tries to randomize the activity, it is much easier if you base your calculations on prime. The larger the prime number, the better. You can choose a prime of 53 seconds, but most people will quit before so many seconds pass. After 17 seconds, the RNG of your slot game can go through hundreds or thousands of new numbers.

In addition, when you force yourself to stop and count up to 17 between the spins of your reels, your mind rests by constantly clicking the Spin button. This strategy helps you to be aware of the elapsed time while in the casino, and it is always to your advantage. In the long run, you will not see better or worse chances of winning with the 17 second strategy, but you will have more control over your actions and your money.
